Hi
Sadly, on June 7th Norfolk County Council (NCC) voted to push ahead with the Norwich Link Road.
This is one step closer to the road being built, BUT there are many more hoops NCC have to jump through: we are still early in the planning process, so this isn't the end of the campaign, very far from it!
NCC will now apply for funding from the Department of Transport.
DoT funding is supposed to be subject to certain environmental standards being met. We will be pointing out to the DoT that it is impossible for this road to be built according to these standards and that funding should not be granted.
Thankyou if you asked a question for us in the meeting of 7th June, many of these went unanswered at the time but will become part of further scrutiny of the scheme where they will be taken more seriously later.
And thankyou to everyone who turned out to protest! We made TV and papers and radio: see
here for some photos.
Tin Can Trail
On the 6th June the SWL Arts Group met up near Ringland to mark out the proposed route of the NWL and show just what a huge area it will devastate.
They used tin cans (see above) in the way they do in Australia to mark trails using accurate maps of the planned works (the cans will be removed at a later date).
Go see for yourself just how wide the devastation will be: on Ringland Lane the cans are spread over about 1.5 km! You can also see cans along the quiet path of Broadland and alongside woodland that would be felled if the NWL is built.
Crowdfunder
The crowdfunder is currently at over £7300! We just need a final push to get to our target of £10,000. The decision on the 7th does make it even more important that we can get expert reports, specialist legal advice and get the word out to more people. There are still people in Norfolk who don't realise this is happening, or the financial and ecological cost.
Thankyou so much to those who have donated and shared so far.
A47 dualling
We have a favour to ask. The plan to dual a section of the A47 is a related project to the NWL. We would like to be able to ask questions on this project. Questions on climate change for instance will be taken seriously and have had an effect in other road campaigns.
We need the capacity to ask many different questions so need members of the public to ask them.
Use your own words to register or cut and paste from the word document attached to this email (which also has more explanation).
Deadline Thursday 17th June
Thankyou!
