Where's the woodland?

This news was a great boost to our publicity campaign for the Public Consultation, with a mention on local tv news as well as news articles

Help us get the last 1,300 NOs - ask outside Norfolk!

The NWL isn't just a decision for Norfolk. 85% of the funding comes from central government, so all UK taxpayers would foot the bill. 

The bat super colony is of national (well international actually) importance.  

We would especially like people in other areas of Norfolk to have their say, but anyone in the UK can respond.

We suggest making a personal appeal to 3 people to take part. Sharing links, or sending a generic message is great too, but directly asking someone can nudge them into action.

It can help if you can open the e-action link with them, or talk them through it on the phone. You have to scroll quite a way down on a phone to get to the text box, and that loses some people. 

People can also want to take part, but don't feel confident about writing a few lines in the text box. You can ask what their main concerns are and then reassure them that some simple sentences are enough. 

If everyone on this e-mail list finds 3 people we can hit our 5000 response target!

Why do we want 5000?  Because about 1800 people said no to the NDR and it went ahead anyway. Bigger numbers are hard to argue with. It will put the 'will of the people' argument to bed.

Also we are hoping that the government will withdraw funding - a bigger opposition will help nudge them in that direction.

Some points to help: 

Destruction of Biodiversity:  The implementation of this road would inflict irreversible harm upon these precious ecosystems, threatening old woodlands with veteran trees and a rare chalk stream.

Increased Carbon Emissions: The construction of the road would exacerbate CO2 emissions significantly, both during the building phase and due to induced traffic. Such actions directly contradict our collective commitments to curbing carbon emissions and striving for 'net-zero' status by 2050. The expansion of road infrastructure blatantly contradicts climate emergency declarations and the ongoing global efforts to decarbonize.

Mitigation Failures: History has shown that past mitigation efforts for similar projects, such as the Broadland Northway (formerly known as the Northern Distributor Road), have fallen short in safeguarding local wildlife effectively. Given this track record, we question the efficacy of proposed mitigation measures for the Wensum Link road. How can we trust that this time will be any different?

Cost/Value for money

Spending this money on a three-mile environmentally damaging road with minimal, if any, economic advantages is unjustifiable. These public funds could be utilised more effectively elsewhere. Alternatives to a road have not been properly investigated, despite local people asking for non road solutions in initial consultations.
