Does this mean that the NWL is more likely to get central government funding?
We think Norfolk CC's positive
spin is unfounded. This does free up more money yes, but there are many other projects with more strategic value, that are better value for money and have less legal challenge that are much more likely to go ahead. But we know that NCC are lobbying hard for the NWL, so we have to keep the pressure up!
If DfT money were forthcoming, then NCC could apply for planning permission as early as November, so please be ready to swing into action if that were to happen - we will need lots of help with awareness raising and getting public engagement with a planning consultation.
One project we can get behind is the
Ely Junction upgrade that would take HGVs off the road network, it would great if Norfolk councillors could be pushing for these kinds of measures rather than
dinosaur road projects.
This would be a much better use of funds to ease road congestion!
The NWL Coalition sends a message to the Department of Transport
Norfolk Wildlife Trust and other wildlife groups are part of a coalition with SWL against the
road.
This week we wrote to the DfT to explain why the NWL is not legally viable - because it is impossible to mitigate the damage that would be caused the the barbastelle bats.
Support the A47 cases to stop the NWL
Dr Andrew Boswell's legal challenge against the A47 dualling projects make the NWL much less likely to be
given the go ahead. You can support them in a fun way by coming to our popular storytelling event Untamed Tales. Please come if you can, and
share the event with friends and family!
