Hi
We have some good news to share!
You may remember the the legal challenge on the A47 dualling projects? The cases have been approved to go to full judicial review!
This means that the government will be challenged on hiding the cumulative affect of building multiple road schemes on our carbon emissions AND on taking into account the habitat destruction for bats.
Why is this important for the NWL?
Because the NWL is not something that exists in isolation - it is part of relying on roadbuilding instead of looking for better transport alternatives.
This case could force the government to properly assess how damaging these roads are, and then it is very obvious that they contradict our climate commitments.
The bats along the A47 are the same supercolony as lives on the route of the NWL - and if the argument that the habitat must be protected and
mitigation isn't possible is upheld that will make building the NWL very hard indeed!
If these cases are successful they could stop the NWL in its tracks.
How can I help?
Spread the Dr Andrew Boswell's crowdfunder. And donate if you possibly can. Andrew would like to pass on his thanks to all those who have already - litigation is an expensive business, so more is needed, but the funder has gone over £20,000! This is a national level campaign so please do share outside
the county.
And come to the fundraising event Andrew is putting on in January. 4 amazing storytellers, including Hugh Lupton who presided over our River Rights event. Stories about nature and protecting it. It should be a great
evening to break up the January gloom.
See more about the speakers here.
Wishing you a happy Christmas, and hope to see you refreshed for more campaigning in the New Year!
