Will England follow Wales?

Firstly - another bit of good news. The Welsh government has scrapped all major new road plans. They have realised that road building is incompatible with carbon reduction targets.

We very much hope that England will follow suit - and that Dr. Andrew Boswell's judicial review cases will help persuade them. Please continue to share the crowdfunder - there is a need for considerably more funds for the case in the run up to May when they are being heard. Link to share and to read an update.

Get others on board

We are coming up for a very significant for the campaign as Norfolk CC will be submitting a planning application. More info on this in the next email.

So we need all hands on deck to make sure they know that the public objects and we will be keeping them to their legal obligations. If you know someone who hasn't been following events, but who you think would object to the cost or environmental damage - now is the time to bring it up and have conversation.

So many of us don't have the time to get into the details of what our council is getting up to - but there will be a chance coming up to have a say.

Remember the NWL does not have central government funding approval. It does not have planning permission.

Now is the time to fight, before it is too far down the track.

Norfolk Council budget in peril

NCC predicts a £60 million funding gap in 2023/24

The anti-cuts coalition have added a demand to stop the NWL as the (bare minimum) £38 million cost is unaffordable in these circumstances, and there is no evidence that it will give any local economic benefit. There will be a protest about cuts to adult and children's services at the Council meeting on 21st Feb (see below for details).

Leafleting and outreach - Norwich Science Festival Climate Day, at St Peter Mancroft by the Forum, Norwich

Come and hand out leaflets and start some conversations. There are still so many people who have no idea about the road plans. Speaking to someone face to face is often the best way to get their attention on an issue. No special knowledge needed, you won't be on your own.

A unique entertainment for discerning adults. Most stories we hear from other cultures were collected by missionaries. These are an exception, full as they are of murder, cannibalism, shapeshifting, weird sex, bodily functions and more besides. They are unashamedly raw and the real thing.

We suggest a donation of £10. The proceeds will go to Andrew Boswell's legal challenge to the Government's assessment of the environmental impact of its road building projects in Norfolk. Whether you're a cyclist, a petrol head or somewhere in between, more roads mean more cars, more pollution and more congestion. And less ice!

The legal challenge to how carbon is assessed in road schemes starts on May 10th and we will be there to make sure the DfT is taking notice! More details to follow.
