Hi
Firstly Dr. Andrew Boswell would like to pass on his thanks to all those who attended and helped at his fundraising event on the 14th January.
Over £2000 was raised for the A47 dualling legal campaign! The
success of these legal cases has very important implications for the NWL, so this cash injection is really important. The cases will now be
heard in May
A great time was had too! Fantastic storytelling.
Obviously litigation is extremely expensive so please do
continue to share the
crowdfunder widely.
River Pollution and the NWL
We have always been worried that the Wensum, as a delicate chalk stream ecosystem, was vulnerable to pollution from the planned bridge.
Recent expert assessment of Norfolk CC's plans highlight the many potential risks to the river.
As always with protective measures, details matter.
Runoff from a major road is full of chemicals and particulates, so it has to be prevented from entering the river. This means filtration, and ponds. But
if they aren't constructed properly, and maintained, they won't work.
We are extremely worried that the budget for this will get squeezed as costs escalate. And, as we have seen with the fate of trees planted as 'mitigation' for the NDR, long term
follow up on environmental measures by NCC is not reliable.
Can we trust that the proper measures will be taken, and maintenance will be kept up?
The Wensum, as with other UK rivers is already under pressure from sewerage over flow and agricultural run-off.
This is one pollution pressure that is easily avoided.
