Hi
SWL will be out and about asking for a pause and rethink on the NWL - come and join us if you can!
Today we are joining in a 'Carnival' organised by Extinction Rebellion, which lots of different groups will be attending.
We hope to have enough people to man a stall in Chapelfield Gardens as well as carry our huge banner around Norwich and distribute leaflets: so please come along today if you can!
On Tuesday Norfolk County Council have a full council meeting. The NWL will be a key item on the agenda, so we want to remind councillors that the decision to go ahead by NCC should be properly debated and the full facts considered.
So if you can make it from 8 am at County Hall on Tuesday we would love to see you!
A reassurance
So, the decision by NCC on the 4th July to push ahead with the NWL is disappointing, but not unexpected. It shouldn't be seen as the end of the road on the campaign by any means. There are many more steps they need to take to get anywhere near building the NWL. For instance:
They need to get DfT funding for 85% of the cost - this is under question due to central funding squeezes and the difficulties that the NWL will present.
They need to get through Planning - there will be a public consultation later this year - which we will be very active in!
If NCC continue to push things through then they will need to demonstrate that they are not harming a protected species - which has strong legal protections, which we intend to uphold.
So it's not over! It's really just begun - and now is the time to put the pressure on: Join us if you can at any of our upcoming events!
