Hi
The Witness the Wensum event on Saturday exceeded all expectations with an estimated 300 people turning up on a windy January day to line the width of the proposed road.
That all those people were needed to show the width of the area that would be destroyed shows the huge scale of the project.
Thanks to everyone who attended, the speakers and organisers who put in a lot of work to make sure the day went smoothly!
This event was created by the coming together of about 11 different organisations who are against the road for different and overlapping reasons: cost and social justice, carbon emissions, ecological damage.... thanks to everyone who contributed to the day!
Norfolk CC changing the route?
It was reported yesterday that Norfolk County Council is looking at a route 'alignment'. Not much is know about it, and it is difficult at this stage to say whether this is a significant change to the plan or a slight 'tweak'.
They are finally acknowledging the significant presence of barbastelle bats, but minor route tweaks will not result in the bats being safe: they are present in the whole area and need large areas of suitable habitat to feed in (surprisingly big for such a little creature).
If there is to be a significant shift in the planned path of the road then the Council needs to come clean and publish details of the new route. We will be watching this carefully.
