Hi
SCROLL DOWN FOR A 2 MINUTE ACTION (MAX WE PROMISE!)
Norfolk County Council recently debated whether to declare a Climate Emergency.
They decided against. One of the cabinet members claimed the Council's "actions to achieve carbon emission reductions speak louder than words".
If only this was true. A week later, the Council published its transport blueprint. The blueprint sets out to avoid setting genuine decarbonisation targets for Norfolk transport. That is even though the government now require it.
And, with the Norwich Western Link, Norfolk County Council continues to squander public money on planning for a road scheme that will increase carbon emissions.
Local campaigners made a legal challenge to the Council in December when the Council adopted the first part of blueprint (Local Transport Plan 4 (LTP4)) without any serious carbon targets. The Council then promised that they would set the targets at the next stage. Instead, they are rushing through the next stage, to avoid having to comply with further guidance from the Government which is due later this year.
The Council have changed their story again, and are now saying that the "carbon work" will be completed later. Later means 'maybe never'.
We have written a
legal letter demanding that the Council abandon the consultation on the Local Transport Plan
PLEASE ADD YOUR VOICE AND EMAIL NORFOLK CC TODAY!
Send an email to ask them to abandon the consultation.
Your email can be as simple as this
"Please abandon the LTP4 IP consultation immediately, and redo the whole NCC Local Transport Plan with proper annual carbon targets for the plan period to 2036 which are in line with the Government's Net Zero Strategy and Transport Decarbonisation Plan."
Please put in your own words if you can.
Add your own words of the urgency for the Council to declare a Climate Emergency and act to tackle climate change.
